A jùn mǎ 俊 马 tale
de François de la Chevalerie
The first time I saw her she was wearing a reddish dress.
As she runs quickly along the zhū jiāng, she addressed me a mischievous smile, a twinkle in her eye.
By then, I was impressed by her tall size.
Easily, she dominates the world, her peers.
A slim and harmonious body, a good looking, Rebecca fights all day long for her well-being, staying on their feet, practicing many sports at any times.
In Guangzhou, she runs a company with an iron fist in a velvet glove.
She has the ability to deal with all kind problems, working hard to achieve her goals.
That’s her life, workable and comfortable.
But one day, her life was disrupted by an unexpected event.
Staying for a wine seminar in France, among other activities, Rebecca went in an old fashioned jazz bar, le Caveau de la Huchette, where so long ago the fantastic trumpeter Miles Davis introduced his timeless King of Blue.
In this jazz hall of fame, dancing couples filled up every square inch of floor space, turning towards a purer rock.
Full of admiration, Rebecca looked down in silence.
At a moment, a frequent visitor of the place, named Niels de Vils, a man with a mellow disarming smile, a bit timid, approached her directly.
The word somewhat hesitant, he offered her a dance,
- The one you will never forget, even in the heaven, he said whispering.
Then he reached his hand towards her.
Cautious, too cautious, almost embarrassed, Rebecca declined, turning her head.
What has happened after is a memorable story.
Because of her refusal, the guy immediately ran out and cried.
He was so badly hurt that a crowd quickly gathered around him, aiming to ease his rising sadness.
He stood motionless, dumbfounded all night long.
The day after, he went back with a huge bunch of flowers.
She wasn’t there, already on her way back to china.
The very same year, each day, each night, Niels brought whites flower there, symbol of purity.
At the same time, in a luxury resort nearby Guangzhou, Rebecca was in another mood, at her hand a fine glass, filling it to a third of its capacity, smoothly swirling the wine to appreciate its color, sniffing it a few times to discover its bouquet and, finally, taking a small sip of the wine into your mouth.
Each day each night, quite the same.
On a hot summer night, a strange feeling engulfed her deeply on her mind.
- Does my life deserve something better that a wine tasting ? Is the life worth living ? She asked herself.
Suddenly she remembered.
- If I had accepted his invitation, my life would have been different.
Her mind emerges from a seeming void, eyes brighten, frown disappear and her lips begin to mouth her untold desire.
The day after, she took the first flight to Paris.
At her arrival, she went directly to the jazz bar.
She waited all night long Niels but he didn’t come.
At midnight, she left and walked around a couple of hours in the murky and deserted streets of Paris.
Returning to her hotel, a friend intercepted her.
- So Rebecca, what are your impressions of your first visit in Paris ?
- I have the strange feeling that I went there before sometimes in another life, the one I will never experience, the one where Niels has existed.
- Niels ? Who is that guy ? asked her friend.
- Just a dream ! she muttered.
- A desire of another world ? He replied.
